Youth Mental Health Training Offered Across NW Iowa in June

Northwest Iowa residents will have the opportunity to learn critical skills in identifying and responding to mental health challenges in young people. The Plains Area Mental Health Center is offering Youth Mental Health First Aid training sessions throughout June.
The training is specifically designed to equip teachers, coaches, parents, and mentors with the knowledge and tools needed to provide initial support to young individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. It’s intended to be a vital addition to their existing support systems, enabling them to recognise signs and symptoms, offer practical assistance, and guide those in need toward professional help.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based program that teaches participants a five-step action plan. This plan includes assessing the situation, selecting someone to help, giving support, listening non-judgmentally, and encouraging professional help. The training covers a range of mental health challenges common among young people, such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and substance use.
The Plains Area Mental Health Center has long been committed to improving mental health services in the region. By offering this specialized training, the center aims to build a more supportive community for young people and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Specific dates and locations for the June training sessions will be announced shortly on the Plains Area Mental Health Center’s website and social media channels. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit their website for further details and registration information.
