Popular comedian Jason Manford has recounted a truly bizarre and stressful experience at Bilbao Airport in Spain. While battling a bout of ill health, the Mancunian funnyman found himself facing potential jail time – all because of a bag of collagen he was carrying!

“So, I’m feeling a bit rough, battling a bug, and desperately trying to get back home to my family,” Manford explained. “I’d packed a bag of collagen – you know, for the joints and skin – and I went through Bilbao Airport customs. Suddenly, I'm surrounded by serious-looking officers, and they're questioning me about this bag of collagen! It was genuinely terrifying. I thought I was going to be arrested and chucked in jail!”

The situation escalated quickly, with Manford fearing the worst. “They kept asking me what it was, where I got it from, and what I was planning to do with it,” he continued. “I was trying to explain that it was just a supplement, but they weren’t having it. I honestly thought I was going to end up in a Spanish prison over a bag of powder!”

Thankfully, after a lengthy and confusing interrogation, the situation was resolved. Manford believes the confusion stemmed from a misunderstanding of the regulations regarding supplements and the fact that he was looking unwell. He managed to convince the officials that he wasn't smuggling anything illicit and was eventually allowed to continue his journey.

“It was a complete nightmare,” Manford admitted. “I’ve never been so stressed in my life. I’m just relieved it’s all over and I’m finally heading home.”
